Lady Bears Win 2nd District Title

Bartram Trail High School's girls volleyball team handily defended its district title against Fleming Island High School in a 3-game match hosted by Fleming Island Thursday night. Bartram Trail won all three games by a 25-22 score. Both teams will advance to the regional playoffs next week. Bartram Trail defeated Fleming Island in last year's district championship.

Nease Wins SJRAC VB Title

The 4A-Ponte Vedra Nease girls volleyball team pasted host 5A-Bartram Trail High School in three games to grab a hard fought St. Johns River Athletic Conference title Thursday night. 4A-Middleburg High defeated 6A-Orange Park High for the third place slot. The SJRAC featured a bevy of local area teams that made the regional playoffs in 2007, including 5A-Fleming Island. Nease bowed out in the 2007 and 2006 state sectionals of class 4A.

St. Augustine High School visited Green Cove Springs for a key 30-0 district 3A-4 win over Clay High School Friday night. St. Augustine is ranked in the top five in 3A for Florida. St. Augustine kicker Mark Sturgis kicked 3 field goals and TDs were scored by Duane Brady, Cardale Brown and Lumar Jones. St. Augustine is 5-0, 3-0 in district play. St. Augustine also got five turnovers from Clay.

Fleming Islands Wins Big Over Bears

Fleming Island High School's girls volleyball team took a four game match against district 5A rival Bartram Trail in Bartram Trail High's home gym to set up what probably will come down to yet another district 5A-3 showdown in the upcoming weeks. Bartram Trail defeated Fleming Island last year for the district 5A-3 championship. Bartram Trail won game one, before Fleming Island dominated the next three games for the win. Both teams had been undefeated prior to the match. MOre photos will be added on Thursday.
