JCP Cares Spring Cleaning

  • 11 photos for sale Buy a Photo
  • On March 8th local area residents donated their gently used household goods and furniture to benefit the Emergency Services Homeless Coalition. This organization provides low income housing for up to two years to families that are trying to get back on their feet. The residents must have a job or be actively seeking employment, attend weekly budget meetings, be subjected to random drug screenings and give back to their community a minimum of 10 hours per month. Once the families are ready to go out on their own, they may take anything they need in their house with them to make a fresh start. 8 van/truck loads of items were taken down to the facility in vans donated by Enterprise Rent-a-Car. On March 15th more than 60 volunteers from the plantation donated their time to help “Spring Clean” the homes at the Homeless Coalition. They worked together with the residents to help paint the houses and spruce up the landscaping. Nanak’s Landscaping and Williams Nursery donated more than 300 plants and Nanak’s sent employees to help as well. After all the work was done Bonos Bar-B-Q catered and donated lunch for all the volunteers and residents of the Homeless Coalition. After lunch the Girl Scouts from Troop 795 helped organize an Easter egg hunt for the resident children with filled eggs that had been donated by Holder Johnson Homes. The children collected all the eggs in baskets that had been made by Girl Scouts from Troops 615 & 795. The Easter Bunny, Anne Marie Gennusa, even made an appearance to the delight of all the children. The sense of community and fellowship was amazing. When everything was totaled up approximately $25,000 was donated in charitable giving along with almost 400 community service hours. It is wonderful to see our mission of “Uniting the community through helping others in need” come true. The community’s generosity is truly overwhelming.
